Exhaustibated!

I'm A Senior....You're A Senior....Everyone's A Senior...

Well....almost everyone's a senior.

And what does that have to do with anything?

Because the above word applies to us, and to them and to all who are seniors.  Here a senior, there a senior, everywhere a senior.  Look high and look low, you will see a senior.  Sitting on their butt, resting their legs, or just enjoying the sunshine on a sunny day.  Or maybe sitting in one of those artsy coffeehouses sipping on a java and maybe eating a nice sweet roll or a piece of pie.

What you might ask does this have to do with anything?

Well it does, because my new word really describes the senior "crowd" which we seem to be a part of.  According to the AARP, once you get to that magic number of age 50, you are a senior.  That puts a lot of us in the mix.  AARP is describing us as old at age 50.  So how do they describe us at age 60, or age 70 or age 80....."over the hill and through the woods" I suppose.

I personally think we should be called the "Exhaustibated Crowd"....not the "seniors" of the world....and definitely not the "oldies".  "Exhausitabated Crowd" just sounds so sophisticated...much more so than those other negative terms usually applied to the over 50 crowd.

Let's get down to business and use "Exhausitbated" for all of us seniors.  After all it  truly describes many of us....ME ME ME ..... and if you don't know the meaning of my new word.....(drum roll please))))))))

It means "Just too tired to give a crap".  Ain't it so!

As I go through life, I find that many words and phrases just turn me off.  I hear this stuff and think "where the heck did that come from".

I know I've mentioned this before.  But some of these really bug me.

For instance one phrase I hear all the time is "hand prepared".  I see this on restaurant menus.  If you really think about it, I question whether there are other ways the menu item could be prepared ... like "foot-prepared" or perhaps "prepared by R2D2 the Robot"?

Another of those ugly set of words (in my estimation) is deal breaker.  What is a deal breaker?  Does it mean a deal which is going to financially ruin you?  I think it always has something to do with a negotiated something or other, but if the deal isn't taken, what happens?  Will the sky fall?  And if the deal is taken, will the person win a prize? And what about the phrase "a little pregnant".  What is a little pregnant.  You are either pregnant or not pregnant.

But the best one I've heard lately is "let me hold that for a minute" and used when two persons are having a conversation without even having anything in their hands to hold!!!  So I guess you are asking the other person permission to let you hold something which is invisible.  And if the other person doesn't grant permission, is the second person who wants to hold the "whatever" for a minute, stealing?    Geeze! Perhaps you can see why I am confused with these terribly strange phrases which are subject to all kinds of interpretation.   And, I don't think I'm going to find answers to all of my questions and thoughts on this subject.  So I guess I will just go on frowning when I hear the dreaded phrases because I really don't know what the person doing the talking means.   And that person probably doesn't either.  Aghhhh!

Thanks for coming to my blog.

Popeye's Best Friend - Spinach

Popeye The Sailorman, He Lives In A Garbage Can

That Popeye sure is a cool dude.  "I am who I am and that's all that I am."  Yep, me too.

Spinach always helped Popeye.  He'd pop out that can of spinach from someone around his armpit   ~~~ ewww ~~~ then pop the lid off, tilt back his head and gobblegegook that spinach in one gulp.   Now .... I think that if old Popeye can do that, so can I.  I love spinach, although I prefer mine raw, with a nice warm bacon dressing on a salad plate.  But the canned stuff will do if it makes me strong and able to get things done.  Like smack the crap outta someone or clean the whole house in one day.

So....today I'm going to start my Popeye campaign.  Gonna eat spinach for every meal.  If I'm going to do that, I will probably have some weird looking body waste but as long as it's the spinach, all will be well.

By this time next week, I should be strong as heck.  I should also have big muscles popping up in both arms and best of all, I will be able to do anything.

After all, I believe in the old saying.....give someone spinach, and that person can lift the world with one hand.  Amen.

Do you use the LOL in your internet communications?  Why do we use this....I thought everyone was supposed to use ROFLMBO....so why did someone come up with LOL.

I know it's supposed to mean Laughing out Loud, but everyone always uses it at the end of their communication so to me it means....."I don't have anything else to say so I'm putting LOL to end this conversation".

The end.....LOL

Has Mother Nature Gone Wacko or What?

Maybe these warm days and perhaps record breaking temps at that are the dog days of summer we hear about.  Or, has old Mother Nature just gone wacko like she did all this year.

Yoohoo Mom Nature.  Could you tell us please?  I'm a bit tired of trying to be a weatherman among my other daily routines!!

I swear I think old Mother Nature lives in a shoe all by herself and she's as dried up as an old prune.  She has a nasty attitude because Father Nature left her long ago because of her attitude and her ability to screw up the weather so badly.  But she still has some kids (us) at home.  When they (us) do meanie things she puts on a storm of unbelievable multitude.  Those hurricanes we have in the south, yep they're her work.  And if she could, she would have hurricanes even in the Midwest.  But since we don't have an ocean around here, she fluffs her tail feathers and gives us those dang Tornadoes which are just awful  And they are most awfullest (is that a word?) when her kids (us) are really acting up.

Today it's going to be warm so I can guess that one of her kids (us) has been a bit bad, but not yet awful.  You better hope those kids (us) don't run around without supervision today and create a catastrophe because you know she will send down a warm air tornado.  Her acts of punishment comes down to us (the kids) because she thinks we played too much while she wasn't/isn't
looking.   And hey Momo...what's this having chilly willy coming up this weekend?  Did you lose your drawers and can't find them so our punishment is cold and wet and more cold?

I am the kid here Mom Nature and I'm tired of you always being in control.  Put down your dang cell phone and quit trying to get old Papa Nature back.  You know he ain't coming back unless you change your attitude.  Or better yet, when you get a face lift cause you're really ugly most of the time.  Cool it.  Not that I really mean send cool air down, which I see you intend to do anyway.  Just be nice and don't do anything horrible.

Get it straight Mom Nature.  I don't like wearing shorts today and a winter coat on Friday.  I'm trying to be nice to Mother Nature but lady, you really try me some days.  Better watch it Mom Nature or you'll be getting a new pair of those pearly white dentures cause I'm gonna knock out your teeth for sending us stupid weather.  Now go do it or I'm gonna be bad and you ain't gonna like it!  I might even hide your Oil of Olay and your wrinkle cream and, then, who will want you around?

While I was doing some research, I found this picture in an old Illinois Blue Book.  It was used in the bill that Homer Tice was instrumental in getting passed -  in an attempt to get paved highways, with said bill passing in 1918. I don't know if this photo was around here but Homer Tice used it in his bill.

Quote For The Day

There is a child in every one of us
who is still a trick or treater
looking for a brightly lit porch light.
--Robert Brault

All saints night is coming.  Most of us have Halloween past stories.  Mine is the hayrack ride from h*ll.

We got on the rack wagon.  Some were kissing, some were hugging and some were sitting scared to death they were going to fall off.  I was in none of the categories.  I was a lonely girl who had broken up with a boyfriend.  What the heck was I doing on this hayrack ride I was asking myself.  I sat there with my hands curled up in the straw trying to breath through the dust and the dirt and the rag weed which I'm sure the bales of straw contained.

Then the tractor stopped.  And the lights went off.  Dang, the tractor broke down.  Out in the middle of nowhere and about 3 miles from town.

We sat there, all quiet.  Everyone worried that they would never get home. I knew I would cause I was going to walk to somewhere.  Everyone else could kiss and tell jokes and spook stories, I was going to be the "savior of the hayrack ride".

So down I climbed and started to walk towards what I thought was town.  I walked and walked and walked and finally made it home.  Opened the door and there was my roommate who had been on the hayrack ride.  She immediately said "where have you been?  What happened to you?  All at once when we started to go again, we couldn't find you!"

I said "what do you mean when we started to go again?"  She then explained that the tractor driver had to go to the bathroom so he stopped the tractor and went to the woods to go.  He came back and away they went in several minutes later after most of the others also went into the woods to go to the bathroom....they went in the opposite direction as I was walking.

That was the last hayrack ride I ever went on.  I had blisters for days and days and my feet ached.  The moral of this story is, if you ever go on a hayride around Halloween,  stay put even if the dang tractor stops.  Someone might come at you with a chain saw but just blow him off because he's probably just a ghost.

Happy Halloween

Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.....

Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.  Catch a tiger by the toe.  If he hollers, let him go.  Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.  My mother told me to pick the very best one, and you are it!

Do you remember saying this when you were a kid?  Especially when you wanted to play tag or choose teams for a school team playing games.

Then, of course, if you didn't pick your best friend because the eeny meeny miny moe choice landed on someone else, you were in trouble with your best friend.  But best friends usually would make up in a short period of time.  Some didn't.

You probably remember this type of friend battle when you were young:

My friend Annie got a new dress and came to school and
bragged about it and made fun my old dress.  She told me
my dress was old and it looked like it was a hand-me-down.
She also told me she didn't want to run around with me
because my clothes were old and ugly.  At lunch she sat with
the girls she always said were snotty.

or, maybe this scenario:

My best friend Scotty got a car for his 16th birthday.  He
didn't ask me to ride in the car and instead asked some boys
he plays basketball with.  He said he didn't have room for me.
I even gave him a birthday present but he didn't seem to like it.

Neither of these are good situations, but these type of things happen in the world of kid friendships.  I always said the Eeny Meeny Miny Moe thing because I was calling my ex-friend an Eeny Meany and I also considered my ex-friend a Miny Moe too, whatever that is.

By the way what the heck is a Miny Moe?  hmm....I bet there is no definition.    I'm assuming an Eeny Meeny  is  close to meaning a tiny Meeny but who knows.  I sure don't.  All those years of using this saying and I don't even know what the heck it means.  But I sure used it a lot when a kid in picking tag teams or other school game teams as well as using it to call my nasty friends a name.

So if I meet you on the street and we were kiddies together, if I call you an Eeny Meeny, you might think back to the time you were mean to me.  You probably deserved it at the time.

Death of a Resident
Greenview lost a favorite son on October 4.  Dennis (Denny) Setzer lost his battle.  For those of us who knew Denny, he was always laughing and was a friend to all.  He is survived by his father Al, his brother Rick and his children and grandchildren.  He will be long remembered.   Greenview is proud to have known Denny as one of its resident children.   Our deepest sympathies to the family.

Quote For The Day

If you want to understand today, you
have to search yesterday.
--Pearl Buck

If you were a crayola crayon, you would have to learn to like the crayon who resided next to you.  The color of your own crayon you personally lived in, would have to not clash with the color of your neighbor crayon.

You might be a sharp crayon but you might be dull.  You might be a cool color or maybe a dull one.  You might not be used much, or your status might be a small nub because you were used a lot.

You could be used to draw a masterpiece or maybe just for a toddler to color.  You may have been broken into tiny pieces, either on purpose or by accident.  But you are still a crayon no matter if you are broken.

When you smell a box of crayons, it's one smell and we all think of our childhood.  Hey crayon, get over it, you all smell the same even though your color may be different.  Yellow doesn't smell any differently than magenta or blue.

Yellow might be used for the sun.  Blue might be used for the sky.  Green most likely would be the color of the grass.  And white or red might be the color of farmer John's barn.

If you use a black for your entire picture, your world might be dull or even bleak.  It probably will be lack luster and not as pretty as a colorful picture.

I have just described life as we all probably know it.  Full of color, with friends and neighbors whom we should get along with no matter what the color or where they are in the box of life.  Live your color to the fullest.  And if you become dull, sharpen up your status.  A dull crayon is not one who everyone wants to be around.

Razydonkulous!

Rather be razzy than to be a stooge.

The days of fall are coming soon.  Some call that fun and wonderful while others call it work. I call it razydonkulous!  Now I'm sure you know what that means. It means epiculous.  Now I know you know what that means.  Epiculous means ridonkulous.

So do I have to explain it further.  Everyone knows what ridonkulous means.  It means the same as razydonkulous.  And, sometimes ridonkulous is spelled ridonculous or even redonculous so maybe now you recognize what I mean when I put the other spellings.

But anyhoos>>>>>>   Fall is time for weenie roasts and a bunch of clown parties.  When a bunch of clowns get together in a time of razydonkulous proportions, everyone has a heck of a good time.  There might be chilli (spelled the Springfield way of course) or some kind of soup and a bunch of hot doggers or maybe a few cheezeburgers with the works.  And every time someone bites into those massive fall sammiches, ketchup and mustard spurts across the way and lands on your neighbor sitting to the far right.  Everyone laughs, including you and the neighbor who got the "works".

Any way you look at it, fall can be a fun time.  But of course, when you look around the corner and see what's coming behind fall, you might get to feeling a bit of altered perception where one sees the world as dark and nasty and cold as heck.  Typically called depression.  But when the time following fall gets here, we might all get to feeling a bit that way.  It typically feels the same as when you get to the end of a good movie or when you complete a video game on the losing side.

So.....after you read this razzy dazzy thing today, think about how razydonkulous fall will be for you.  By the way, it also means "beyond ridiculous".  But, why not have a good time and impress your friends.  Use your new word "razydonkulous" three times this week just to have a ridonkulous time.  Using it might help ward off those feelings of old man "shhhhh" winter coming.  Bodacious!

I think of my blog as a one of a kind cartel.  It's a conglomerate group formed in the best interest of our home town to promote a mutual interest.   I guess it's a bunch of people who like Me and only me (just kidding) ROFLMBO.

Really it's a bunch of people who like to read quasi-cartel type information and articles written by a dowdy old pantsuit woman.  So that must mean this is a "dowdy pantsuit cartel" written by a dowdy old woman bound forever to be dressed in a pantsuit of varied colors and patterns.  Everyone knows only old women wear pantsuits....well.... I wear pants and some of them are suits so I guess that fits me.  Boxy jackets like Hillary Clinton and wrinkles go together.  And, when you wear them while you are writing a blog article you become one of those dowdy old women.  So the result is a dowdy pantsuit cartel.  But that definitely is better than me writing a cheeky monkey blog.  It would be full of bananas and monkeys picking fleas.

We all know that Greenview is the land of "cool".  Urban cool that is.  So this old dowdy pantsuit woman will keep on wearing her pantsuit and chistling her writings on the stone tablets of progress.  So now it's time to go for now....time to change my pantsuit.  Another day another pantsuit.

J'eat Yet?

J'eat Yet?  J'eat Yet?  J'eat Yet?

When in the south talk like 'em.  I'm learning how to do that.  First time I heard "j'eat yet", I definitely didn't know what was being said.  Non-southerner here, believe me.

Then I began to catch on.  It meant "Did you eat yet".  Of course that was what was being said.  Only it was in what I call "mouth shorthand".

I knew what "y'all" meant but, when I heard "chugged full", I was baffled.  What the heck does that mean?  I had to ask the person who was talking as soon as she got done flapping her gums.  I casually said, "what the heck does "chugged full"" mean?  She told me it means full and overflowing.  Well of course it does.....when she first said it, she was filling my water glass and said "if I don't watch it, it will be "chugged full".

One day, in 98 degree weather, and while I was in the lobby of a building, a nice lady was "goin on" about this and that.  The door kept opening and closing and "leaving in" (as she said) hot air.  All at once she said I wish they would "close the newmonina hole".  What???????????  I was so shocked I know my eyes must have been about as big as silver dollars.  So she said...honey haven't you ever heard that?  NOOOOOOOOOO  I haven't.  She said it means I wish they would close the door.  OMG ....  I figured it had something to do with shutting the door, but I sure as heck wasn't going to get "Newmonia" in 98 degree weather.  But she was right.....I wish they would close the door as it was making me hot....but I didn't get "Newmonia" thank goodness.

Through the days, I also heard "well hush my mouth"; "sorry as a two dollar watch" (hey watch that .... I bought the cutest watch for not too much more than two dollars); "on me like white on rice";  awfullest"; "didja"; "crookeder"; "matoes"; "taters"; "tal" (which I think was towel); and "hankering".  One time I asked about ordering some flowers and the clerk kept saying something about the "floors"....I gave up, as I sure didn't want a bunch of floors being sent instead of the flowers I meant to send.

Then came the very best mouth shorthand I heard on my road to discovery of southern "twang lang" (which is the term I've coined to mean the voice of the south).  I was sitting by a nice lady who said she wasn't feeling well.  I offered to call someone but she said no she would be ok.  All at once she said the heat was making her feel badly and she was a dizzy as a bessy bug.  To me that meant she must be pretty dizzy because if she's likening it to a bug, it had to be bad.  From previous experience with bugs in the south, I knew  I had heard references to a beetle that was called the Betsy Bug.   So, I knew that woman was really feeling dizzy because those Betsy Bugs are huge and ugly with a thingy on the front that looks like a horn.

More than once, the following was said to me "you must be from the north".  Yes I am from the north came the response from me....  but I went on to clarify that I sure wished I was from the south.  So from now on I will have to claim ...... "American by birth - southern by the grace of God".  And, I will leave it at that.  Have to leave now and find some vittles as I really have a hankering for a big piece of old southern pecan (spoken with a long "e") pie and tater salad with a big slab of fried catfish with a toppin of remoulade sauce.  Yummee.

I bet when I left the south, my new southern friends probably were talking about my northern accent and I was probably called a Redneck more than once.  And, because I kept asking questions like "Huh?",  I was probably labeled as one who doesn't have a lick of good sense or at least that I was so dumb that my brother-in-law was probably also my uncle.   And, they probably think that all of the Lite/Lower Fat Spam I've eaten over the years has caused cholesterol buildup in my brain veins and has caused me to be unable to understand "God's" language for the south.

Ya gotta love that twang lang y'all.  I'm gonna learnt that twang lang as soon as I can.

Greenview Fall Garage Sales
Fall town wide garage sales are October 6 from 8 am to 1 pm.

Death
Wayne Hohimer passed away on August 30.  He was born April 29, 1923.  He is survived by his wife Eloise, and daughters Karen Setzer and Shelly Cassen of Greenview; daughter-in-law Sheila Hohimer of Springfield; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Milas of Lockport.

Once upon a time I thought about writing a book of poetry.  The thought went around and around in my mind and then I threw that silly idea out the window and decided that I wasn't ready to write a book of poems which most people wouldn't understand.  My problem is that people are always trying to determine what an author means with every word written.

I remember back to my high school years when we were given a poem and then told to write about what it meant.  My mind always went blank.  How would I know what the author meant when he himself might not have known what he meant.  An author sometimes just writes what comes to mind with no thought to what he/she actually means.

It seems that every teacher I always had knew exactly what the author meant.  This was before I became wise and found out that the interpretation was the teacher's own interpretation of what it meant.....and when I wrote what I thought it meant, it never jived with the teacher.  Then I had a college instructor who put our class wise on interpretations and how authors sometimes never think about what the passage means...they just write.  And he also told us that just because a teacher has an interpretation of what it means doesn't mean that's what it meant.  Dang it....I always wrote down my interpretation for my high school teacher and I probably could have passed those classes after all.

So now I write for fun and who the heck cares what it means.  Sometimes I write random thoughts and most of the time these make sense .... but sometimes they don't make a lick of sense and are dumb besides.   Guess that's why I haven't yet decided to write my book of poetry or even finish my unfinished novel which was started long ago and is still waiting for my next thoughts.  Perhaps one day I will get the urge to write poetry and finish the novel.  But maybe I won't.  For now, I'll just continue to bore my readers on this blog with my whimsical words of wisdom....I think that's what they are.

Marbold Home Made The List

Yes, it's official, the Marbold home made the list of the 10 most endangered sites by Illinois Landmarks.  Read about it in the State Journal Register article below.  The site has been purchased by the Historic Marbold Farmstead Association....but they need help to be able to achieve restoration.  Help if you can......give generously.....this is our community.....and the Marbold mansion has always been a part of our lives.

If a wicked witch would wave her wand over your head and spoke the words "you will only be able to speak the truth to your wife, your family, your boss and your friends, would you be worried??

Maybe not if you are a very honest person, but a lot of people, would not be able to live in this world being able to speak only the truth.  I really don't know how some people can go about life telling stories which are not the truth.  I know about 3 people who do this and I'm always catching them in these fabrications of the truth.  But this is their way of life......people know they lie like a rug and just ignore them.

Can you imagine not being able to call your boss and say "I'm sick today"??!!  About 3/4 of the work field has done this many times in their working life.  I have, I must admit.....not often but a few times when I really needed a day off.  And when my employees did this, I could tolerate this as long as it wasn't often and didn't consist of multiple days without the employee being able to produce a doctor's excuse.

When it comes to only being able to tell the truth to your spouse, some will really have a hard time.  Lots of persons don't want to tell the spouse that they stopped to have a beer, or the amount they spent on a new item, or if they flirted or even worse that they had an affair.  But if the wicked witch waved her wand and put the old truth curse on you, watch out......your spouse is going to hear the truth, and nothing but the truth......and it might get bad for some!!

So if you happen to see an ugly old witch, with a wart on her nose, and she is carrying a sign which says "Truth" and is carrying her wand, you better run for cover......if her wand waves over you, your mouth will only speak the truth and no lies forevermore.  Unless, that is,  you can find her and persuade her to "unwand" you.

History Can Be A Mystery

Darn history's a mystery again....

Those who lived in Egypt were Egyptians and their bodies got to live through eternity as mummies in a spiffy and dry pyramid.  Those mummies definitely contributed to the mystery of history.

Then came the historical travel of all of those Europeans on those big boats, crossing the pond.  They came in droves and landed just about everywhere on every continent.  Some went north and some went south and some landed right here in America.  Those travelers definitely contributed to the mystery of history and here we are to prove it.  What I've always wondered is did they also have an ark like Noah's or how else could all of these different kinds of domesticated animals come to be in America??

After all of those Europeans came here and established colonies, they began fighting. (Wonder if they fought on the boats coming over on the pond??)  The American Revolution was a biggie.....and all because some Bostonian bought cheap tea to make a cuppa and then forgot to leave the sugar bowl out for all of the tea drinkers to put sugar in their tea.  Wow that little faux pas sure caused the "big fight" to occur.  Definitely contributed to our history.

Then time went on and we had a great president and he was even from this area.  He just had to go to the theater one night instead of staying home where he belonged.... and, while there, he got shot by someone who was a part of a big conspiracy group which was ticked off and wanted to avenge the South's defeat. This guy shot the president and ran...the big coward....he should have stayed and faced the music.  But it didn't do him any good to run...they found him....he was shot but refused to come out of the barn....so they burned it down until he got too scared to stay in the fire....the coward.  He got his just reward and he's still dead to this day.  Another time which contributed to the history of America.

Many years went by and then the Japanese and the Germans just couldn't stay apart and fought like cats and dogs....and of course we had to stick our nose into it and become involved.....just like we did later with Vietnam, and Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan!!  All of these cold wars and conflicts contributed to the history of America....and did it ever cost us.

I do believe if we were still in the days when we flew kites to have electricity.....or even if we still had to rub two sticks together to get fire.....or if we had to bake our own bread and then break it with our neighbors, our future history might be a bit different.  Right now, there are so many things going on in America with financial problems with our federal and state and local governments, and the job situation so out of control,  we may all end up getting on boats and going back to our roots.....back to Europe over the pond....or maybe to Egypt....at least our bodies would eventually be mummies and nice and warm in a pyramid for eternity.

Thought For the Day
Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside, awakes.
--Carl Jung

Not long ago someone asked me if I would rather see a man in tight black pants or a pink cotton shirt.....a pink t-shirt to boot.

For crying out loud that is really a funky question......From my personal point of view, there is really no question about which it would be.....the pink-shirt of course......as I sit here laughing my hiney off at that ridiculous answer.  I would most definitely prefer to see a man in a pink tu-tu with frilly net skirting all around, and wearing pink tights with pink ballet slippers.  This is my birds eye view of the utmost man (cough cough).  Maybe a very weird one, but you have to admit....anyone who is brave enough to even wear such an outfit must have big rocky mountain oysters!!  HA HA HA

Now for the real answer, I think a man should always wear tight western jeans, and cowboy boots, with a plaid long sleeve shirt with the cuffs rolled up slightly.  Now that it is a "MAN".  Let's see you guys.....one, two, three.....
