Calling the Energizer Bunny

How Many People Will Forget Batteries???

Those poor little kids who wake up to nice gifts under the tree from Santa and all of them take batteries....3 triple AAA ..... 4 Double AA .. big batteries, little batteries.....but did the parents remember to buy them   NO NO NO.   Oh No!

On this day when kids usually play hard and long, the energizer battery bunny isn't even able to show its stuff during the Christmas morning hours.  Of course the house is quiet all morning because the kids are mad at Santa or the mom and dad because there aren't any batteries to make the fire siren do its shrill and screeching sound....no bells ringing .... no lights flashing on the remote cars.....and the remote cars are just at rest in the box.

The kids are nestled all snug in their beds.  Wait...... that was supposed to be on Christmas Eve not Christmas Day!   Seems like the kids got a bit mouthy with mom and dad over no batteries so they were sent to bed.  It sure gives mom and dad time to rest after staying up all night to put together all of those toys that don't make a peep.

Wake up mom and dad....get on your panties and get going and find a store  open on Christmas Day.  You are the one who forgot the dang things, so get moving.    With the greedy type of merchants these days, I'm sure there will be several open.  Get that last leftover Christmas shopping dollar Mr Merchant.  And, you say you mark up the price on batteries....not surprising because a lot of moms and dads forget these precious little commodities and ou Mr. Merchant can make a killing on those precious batteries.

But I've got news for you this year.....the Energizer Bunny was arrested, charged with battery.  Ho Ho Ho.  Better plan on toys with no batteries this year.

Greenview School History - Continued

This is copied from one of the original Greenview Scrapbooks.  This article is continued from yesterday's blog post.  I believe this particular article was written many years ago but not published until approximately 1975.

"......On May 1, 1948, by a vote of the people, Community District No. 200 was formed.

Three main purposes were confronted for this new unit, namely, (1) that the people of the Greenview Community high school district vote sufficient bonds for the erection of the new high school building; (2) that they establish the above mentioned community unit school district to serve all grades one through twelve; (3) that they include sufficient territory to insure a population of at least 2,000 and assessed evaluation naturally being well over the $6,000,000 mark.

On April 13, 1948, the people of the community voted a $300,000 bond issued for a new high school building.  Of the 572 votes cast at the election, 511 were FOR the proposition and only 61 AGAINST the measure.

Recipe

I think I posted this recipe around Christmas last year.  This is probably the most simple candy you can make.  And they are really good!

Ingredients:

Either lattice type pretzels or mini twists pretzels.
Rolo candies (buy as many as you want to make...one per pretzel
Pecans or walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Unwrap rolos.  Place pretzels on the cookie sheet and place a rolo in the middle.  Bake in the oven until the Rolo is just beginning to melt 3-5 minutes...should be soft but not melted.  Remove from the oven and immediately press a nut (can use half a nut) into the Rolo.  Cool and store in a container with a tight lid.

Quote For The Day
Let us be not be too particular, it is better to have old secondhand diamonds than none at all.
--Mark Twain

Friends are just the best thing.  Friends are the family we choose for ourselves....what a true statement.
At Christmas time the good in people seems to come out for some reason.  They are friendlier and more talkative and want to do things to help others.  I like that.
But I like to have my friends close to me so I can give them a friendly hug and good wishes for the upcoming holidays.    Friendship brings a warm feeling (kind of like peeing on oneself....everyone can see it but only you can feel the warm feeling it brings....just kidding....had to throw that in.  LOL)

So this holiday season, reach out and give a friend an extra special greeting.  It might boost your day.
