Proof Is In The Pudding

That Pudding Proof is showing.....
Fall is just about upon us....and the weather is proving that fall is near.  The mornings are feeling cool and the days are still nice and not hot at all.  A fine time to get work done inside or on the outside of the home.  Friday is the first day of fall, so mark your calendars.  Start getting your jackets and coats out folks....the cold comes fast and furious in old Greenview land.  Frost will be upon the pumpkin in nothing flat.

This weekend our roof gets done.....hubby started it, but a professional roofer is going to finish it.  The steepness of the roof scares the heck out of people.....including us.  So much for saving money.

Leaves are turning brown and falling....mine aren't getting pretty this year.  Maybe due to the dry hot weather we had.  The rain we received this past week was needed but it came too late for crops and other plants.  My poor flowers really suffered.... and, I only hope my perennials will once again come through next spring.

I took a ride around Greenview and everyone's grass looks the same.....dry and burnt.  But the weeds look dead too and that's a plus.  The only good thing is we didn't have to mow the grass much/any in late summer.

Recipe

This is an easy quiche recipe.  It's quick and hearty.

All-In-One Quiche

1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup Bisquick Mix
3/4 stick softened margarine
3 eggs
1 cup diced ham or turkey or shrimp
2 green onions chopped
1 - 4 oz. can drained mushrooms
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Combine first 5 ingredients with mixer.  Turn into greased deep 9 or 10 inch pie pan.  Add meat or shellfish (poke into the batter with a spoon back).  Top with onions, mushrooms and cheese.  Bake until top is golden brown, about 45 minutes.  Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

Thought For The Day

Common sense is not so common.

If you have a dog, is he/she smart?  Sometimes I can't believe how smart our dog is.  When the kids were younger we had to spell out words to keep the kids from knowing what we were talking about.  NOW>>>>>>>>>> it's the dog.  We have to spell words to keep her from knowing what we're saying.

She knows words like truck, go, car, ride, grocery shopping,  When she hears these, she starts barking and running around and won't stop until we let her outside so she can sit by the truck or car.

The only way we can get out of taking her with us it to tell her she can have a cookie.  She loves those sandwich creams the best.....but she also likes coconut cookies and peanut butter too.  You can't fool her and tell her she can have a cookie, then give her a dog treat.  Dog treats come second best in her book.  So we must be specific when we tell her she will get a treat or a cookie.....cookies always work best.

If we are planning to leave without her, she starts biting on the shoe first.  Then if that doesn't do the trick, she puts her paws around one of our legs.  She's only playing, but she does mean business....the offer for a cookie must come out of our mouths or she will continue her blocking efforts.

So now we've taken up spelling again, just like we did for the kids when they were very young.  But this dog is so smart, I'm wondering if she soon will grasp what spelled words mean. I'm not sure how many words she knows, but it's in the hundreds.   I think I see this dog walking down the aisle of the local community college with a diploma in her paws.  Hope she doesn't expect me to pay for her college though.

Now if I can just teach her the word firewood.....maybe this winter she will fetch us a load of firewood for the fireplace.
