Are You Totally Bored??
There is nothing like boredom! A person can just about go bonkers when there is nothing to do and no one to do it with. You yawn and yawn and shake your head and body to wake up the boredom. Then your head falls to your chest in sleep while you are sitting at your computer. The bored person will sometimes go to bed or sit in a recliner to take a nap, but to no avail....sleep will not come. You yawn and yawn ....again.
Then the person tries to become un-bored and it doesn't work. I thought maybe if I gave a list of things to do when you're bored, the next time you're bored, you can consider yourself a productive un-bored person, because at least you're doing something.
1. Play solitaire ..... for cash.
2. Do exercises in your head.
3. Teach your pet rock to shake hands.
4. Braid your dog's hair.
5. Go to McDonald's and pretend you don't speak English.
6. Try not to think about polar bears....after a while that's all you will think about!
7. Go to a wedding reception for a person you don't know but pretend you do.
8. Carry a tune, drop it and see if it breaks.
9. Pronounce all friends' names backwards.
10. Super glue a penny to the front sidewalk and watch spouse, kids, neighbors, friends or visitors try to pick it up.
This list should allow you to find at least something to do when bored! The best though is to go to the library and start humming at a soft low pitch and see who notices. Make sure there are several people at the library!
Boredom can be as much as you want it to be....or conversely as little as you want it to be. It's just a state of mind where a person has no particular interest in doing anything. So, do something, so you're not so bored! Unless you live in Greenview....it is rather boring and causes me to write a lot of nonsensical things (is that a word??)....OMG it is a word....it means "lacking intelligible meaning". I just hurt my own feelings.
Old Tyme Greenview....Again
- 1907 The Greenview Coal company was organized with a capital stock of $20,000. A steel water tank was installed to improved the town's waterworks facilities...prior to that it had a wooden tank and a wind mill. On October 16 the Greenview Chapter 595, Order of the Eastern Star was organized.

Farmers balls were held and as many as 600 attended to dance and listen to music. H. H. Marbold erected his new bank building in 1908 of brick, marble, tile and bronze.

Recipe
I went to the State Fair yesterday to watch the auto races. Several times I saw kids go by our seats with Elephant Ears and Funnel Cakes. These looked so good, and then I thought about the recipe I have for Funnel Cakes....it's simple and good golly is it ever good. Some of you might not have made it to the fair this year, but if you make these, you will feel like you were right there among the vendors selling Funnel Cakes at a huge $5.00 cost. I couldn't believe the cost of food at the fair....holy smokes how do people afford to take their families and buy anything to eat???? (Admission plus parking plus food...Yikes!)
Funnel Cakes
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cups of milk
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups cooking oil
Sifted powdered sugar.
In a mixing bowl, combine eggs and milk. Sift flour, baking powder and salt and add to the egg mixture and beat until smooth. IN a deep skillet heat oil to 360 degrees. Covering spout with finger, pour 1/4 cup batter into a funnel. Remove finger and release batter into the oil in a spiral, starting in the center and winding out or release in a zig zag. Fry till golden, about 3 minutes. Turn carefully and cook about 1 minute more. Drain on paper towels and then dust with powdered sugar. Makes about 6-8 cakes.
These are great when grandkids come to visit!

I consider it a privilege to myself when I relish the small pleasures in life. Sometimes these small pleasures are simply the best thing ever. Yesterday while at the fair, I bought an instant lottery ticket and got the chance to spin the wheel....Just like Vanna White and Pat Sajak's wheel, except the biggest prize was a $5.00 scratch off instant lottery ticket. But, one of the prizes was a hat with Player on the front and the lottery logo on the back.
A downs syndrome girl was in front of me with her mother. Her mother gave her two spin tickets....she spun and it came up "mints" the first time. Her mother told her to spin again with the other ticket and once again it came up "mints". The young lottery employee, asked the downs girl if she would like a hat rather than two mints. I know for a fact that these children of God love hats. She tore off the hat she was wearing and plopped that hat on her head faster than I could blink. Then she smiled as big as she could and said "that's what I wanted to win!"
This was a small pleasure for her and her mother and for me too. The lottery employee was just a young girl, but she had heart and bent the rules to give pleasure to someone whose life centers on the small pleasures of life. The parents of that young lottery employee raised her right and should be proud.
I love it that this world still holds value in doing the right thing. When I see a small pleasure being delivered to someone else, it makes my heart as happy as if it were my own small pleasure. Some days with all of the turmoil of the world going on, I wondered if the world was turning the right way. Seeing this, I guess it is.
