Tuesday is always a good day. October 6, 2009

Today has started out to be a rainy day, but the dust has been flying, so I guess a good rain is ok. I plan to stay in the house and make a coffee cake from a recipe given to me by my good friend Charlotte W. Then I will eat some and promptly regret that I did for everyone knows that a moment of ectasy on the lips is a lifetime of regret on the hips. But I will just have to deal with that later because that darn coffee cake is wonderful.

Greenview Garage Sales. Don't forget the garage sales are this weekend. Unfortunately it is supposed to rain on Thursday and Friday. Due to the rain coming, I must give up my idea of having a garage this weekend as I could only be open until noon on Saturday so I was going to be open all day Friday. Next weekend will have to do for my sale.

No news seems to be the word in Greenview. Some weeks there seems to be lots of news and at other times, there is nothing going on in town.
Circuit Breaker, Illinois Cares Rx reminder. The Illinois Dept. of Aging will not be mailing out reminders to persons who haven't reapplied for Circuit Breaker and Illinois Cares Rx. Application deadline is 12-31-09. To assure no break in coverage, paper applications must be submitted the first week in December...and internet applications take 4-6 weeks to process (hmmmm internet takes longer huh). Don't forget ... these are some money saving things!

Terror on the Square. If you live in Menard County and haven't seen Terror on the Square, you are missing a really great Halloween treat. Be sure to make your plans to go see it before Halloween is over. On the west side of the square in Petersburg. The Ghosts will say Boo!

PUMPKIN PIE CAKE RECIPE
1 large can Libby's pumpkin or 1 large can pumpkin pie mix
1 yellow cake mix
1 cup chopped pecans (walnuts will work)
2 sticks margarine - melted
Mix the pumpkin into a pie as directed on the can. Or you can use the large can of pumpkin pie mix but the result will be a thinner version of this dessert. Pour into greased 10 by 14 pan or jelly roll pan with sides if using canned pumpkin and not the pie mix. Sprinkle DRY cake mix evenly over the pumpkin pie mixture. Sprinkle nuts over the dry cake mix. Melt 2 sticks margarine and pour over cake. Bake 350 for 60 to 70 minutes but test at about 50 minutes with a toothpick. This is great to take to a fall cookout or for Thanksgiving.

Life in Greenview goes on. The farmlands will become bare in the next few days, but life will go on. We will prepare for a cold winter, but we will survive. Greenviewanites are survivors. Another day. Another time. But we go on with life. We live for the moment and don't regret the past.

Have a good day.
